In August 2021, women in Afghanistan watched heartbroken as their government betrayed them--again. Following the withdraw of US military forces, the Taliban seized control of Afghanistan once again and plunged the country into two years of chaos.

Find out What Team Themis has been doing since then and what our goals are moving forward.

Our Work

Globally, according to the UNHCR, 52% of all refugees come from just three countries: Syria, Afghanistan, and Ukraine. From Afghanistan alone, there are 6.1 million people living as refugees today. Refugees who are women face extreme risks and are at increased risk of gender based violence because of the inherent insecurity in their daily lives.

From Afghanistan to Ukraine to Yemen, women-at-risk need rapidly deployable solutions for safe-housing, food, medical care, and compassionate support. At Team Themis we are committed to building scalable, cost-effective solutions by women, with women, and for women. We aren’t just women–but we are all FOR women. When we care for women, we care for families.

Currently, we partner with locally based organizations in Afghanistan to ensure we can reach ANY woman in need with life saving food and medical supplies within 24-48 hours of receiving urgent requests.

Our team of software developers who are recently resettled refugees, is piloting software to enable women who are refugees or IDPs to privately and securely report incidents of gender based violence (GBV) and gain access to critical resources for GBV survivors.

We use a suite of open source software and chat based tools to provide 24/7 emergency support to women and their families in our safe-housing program. Open source software allows our team to track medical appointments, child vaccination charts, visa and UNHCR registration status, and ensure that no one falls through the cracks when they are under the care of Team Themis programs.

Team Themis is laser focused on designing and implementing replicable processes for providing the highest level of support to women-at-risk and to ensure transparency and accountability at every level of our operations. We have built and continue to iterate robust systems of survivor protection and strive to set “THE” gold standard for care of at-risk-women.
